Girly Girl lollipops and Simple Abundance Retro Dot Sky

How about it? These names are long and strange but nevertheless they reveal the most beautiful prints on fabric.... I have often wondered about how the fabric designers come up with ideas for their fabriclines, but never have I given it a thought how they come up with the names for the fabrics.

Girly Girl Bubblegum Lollipops fabric by Patricia Bravo is not the kind of colors I normally choose.

But there was someting about this happy blue fabric, which I simply couldn't resist. I think it was the pink and the blue against each other, and the need for bright and cheerful colors in the dark autumn days.

Simple Abundance Retro Dot Sky by Moda is in one of my favourite color combos: red and pale blue. And since it had dots too, I just had to have it...

I have lots of fabrics which will go perfectly with this fabric - and I'm sure that I will find a piece of fabric in my stash piles, which will match the Girly Girl Bubblegum Lollipops.

What's the name of your favourite fabric???

From Læsø

Buttons and soap, originally uploaded by lille-ursus.

My parents-in-law recently returned from their holiday on Læsø - a Danish island.

As many of you probably already know, Læsø has a wonderful shop with lots of beautiful yarn and other desirable things. If you go to the island and want to visit the shop, then look for the name "Uldstuen".

Well, my mother-in-law definitely had to see the shop again, and while she was there, she bought buttons and soap for me.

I love soap - especially English and French soap. (I enjoyed looking at soap bars when I lived in London and had my weekly day off. The smell and beautiful wrapping...oh!)

The buttons I got were made from stone and horn. They all look beautiful and I think that the ones in stone will be fabulous on a knitted cardigan.

A scarf and a little dress

I wanted to make a little dress for an acquaintance of mine, who had a baby girl a few months ago. So I found this pattern in an Ottobre magazine - I needed size 74 cl.

The upper part of the dress is cut fairly high on the dress, and I kind of like that on this model. This and the fact that it's gathered in the middle, makes the dress a bit more copious.

I made the dress reversible - I'm rather fond of that at the moment - because I think it's smart and because it's warmer for a baby with two layers of fabric.

The fabric with the small flowers in different colors, is one whichI have used before. It's called Ginger Blossom. The bright one is a Japanese fabric and I simply love it - I have it in pale pink as well.

Making buttons on both sides is easy - I simply make sure that both pair of buttons have the same amount of holes.

Now I hope that the dress will bring joy....

My Baktus Scarf is also done. I only have to sew in the few ends of yarn, which the purple and pale blue stripes have left me with.

The scarf was easy-peasy to make, and I know that I will enjoy having the soft cotton yarn around my neck. Warm and cozy - just as I like it...

Skuffedarium...or just a wooden box?

Now I have a little, new skuffedaruim. A new, old one that is.... In Danish we have the word skuffedarium which means a chest of drawers, but maybe that word is too much for such a tiny wooden box?

But never mind....

During my husband's childhood he has looked at this old box, with 3 transperant drawers. And before ending up in his childhood home, I guess it has had it's days of gloory in a cozy, little shop with supplies for crafting and embroidering women. But now it's mine...my mother-in-law thought that I would like it. And she was right - I love it!

As you can see it used to contain embroidery floss from the company named DMC. Now it has to contain my things.

I haven't really decided what to put into it yet, but I reckon that it will be my embroidery floos and other accessories for needlework.

But before that is going to happen, I have to give the wooden box a thorough cleaning. When it's all nice and clean I want to put some beautiful paper or wall paper in the buttom of the drawers. I think this could be very pretty or maybe this? Luckily I decide how it's going to look, so maybe I will give each drawer it's own unique look....

Maybe then it will be able to be called a skuffedarium... :)

Here you are!

A while ago I was lucky enough to get an " I think you are an awesome girl" award from Wenche at Tusindfryd. Thanks you so much sweet, Wenche. :)) Along with it came a little challenge, which told me to tell you 10 things about me....

I had to think for a few days, but here you go - 10 more or less weird things about me. And of course that goes without saying, that my family is the biggest essence of my life:

  • I broke my front tooth in a bumpercar in a tiny touring funfair when I was seven.
  • I'm a huge fan of raw potatoes...
  • Prince is the artist I dream of hearing - and seing - in the future.
  • It takes a lot to make me angry - I actually have the patience of a saint (at least I like to think so - my family might not agree).
  • I hate playing Monopoly - but I love playing Mastermind.
  • You will never see me with long hair. That is a long gone thing for me....
  • Sweden is my favorite country - I love all things Swedish and Swedish people. They are so kind.
  • I always, always tend to cook too much food!
  • If I hadn't been in a car accident which totally changed my life, I would have loved to have a tiny shop of my own. Full of children's clothes and arts and crafts by talented people.
  • My goal is to enjoy and seize the day. Small everyday things often tend to be the biggest moments in my life...

So now I leave the opportunity for telling 10 things about yourself to:

Rosanna at Eaviola because she makes me laugh so much with her words. And because of the way she handles and looks upon familielife - it's so wonderful to read about. Furthermore we agree on so many things.

Nina at Nö's familie because she is such a wonderful person, whom I liked the minute she left a comment on my blog. I adore her sense of humour, way of looking upon life and creativity.

Hanne at Tulipaner og Tomater because she is a huge talent. I never get disappointed by her fantastic work, her lovely posts and comments and her giving and helpful person.

Of course it's all up to you whether you want to do it or not....

A little tunic and more

A little tunic, originally uploaded by lille-ursus.

Finally a bit to show you.

This little tunic is supposed to go with a pair of trousers, which I made in the same fabric as the bias tape and the little pocket.

The plain fabric is cotton and flax with a touch of gold and so are the buttons. I bought both at my favorite shop SMÅ TEKSTILER, which sadly doesn't exist any longer.

During the days with no camera, I recieved some fabulous bias tape. As you probably already know, I adore bias tape - especially the kind like these. They are so nice, I think.

And the fabric underneath the bias tapes, is from Amy Butler. Just the colors I adore....I bought 3 yards of it, in order to get enough.

I really would appriciate it if the Danish patterns, wrote the amount of fabric needed in the American width as well (about 110 centimetres).

We see those fabrics more and more here in Denmark, thanks to shops like Malika og Rosa and Stof & Stuff.

However, I still buy most of my fabrics abroad.

Tomorrow....

...will be the day where my camera returns from the Northern part of Sweden. For 10 days it has been away!!

I'm so exited to be able to take photos again....but even more exited to see my husband who brings the camera back. We are no good at being apart.

I will not say a word - just let the pictures speak for themselves..... BUT if you want to see more of these far-too-soon-to-show-items go have a look at this!

In the back of my mind

Along with the cold mornings we are having these days, comes the need for warm and beautiful cardigans. Actually I would choose wearning a cardigan over sweaters (not literally!). Cardigans are much easier to put on - I have always hated pulling sweaters over my head! And I like the casual look of a tunic with an unbuttoned cardigan over it.... So I'm always on the lookout for smart and gorgeous cardigans...

For a long time I have been dreaming about a very elegant one from Sandness.

I know that's it's not that special, and the shape of it has been seen several times before, but nevertheless I adore it.

The grey yarn will go with lots of my clothes, and the little color splashes of lime, pink and purple gives the classic pattern a new twist.

Now you might think that I'm going to start yet another knitting, but then you are wrong.

This lovely pattern I will keep in the back of my mind....and when I finish some of the others things I'm knitting, this fine pattern will pop up in my head right away.

Baker's twine

This is where I store my Baker's Twine. When I put it in there it was a lot bigger - now I have used so much of it, that I will have to order a new one soon.

Next time I would like to have the Baker's Twine in white and blue, or maybe white and brown?

I love that kind of string - it's strong and beautiful and can be used for almost everything.

When gifts are wrapped I put it around them, when big brown envelopes need closing the Baker's Twine do the job, when plants need to be held in the air, I simply tie them to a bit of the lovely string...so many ways to use the red and white string.

Sadly, I have a hard time finding the Baker's Twine here in Denmark...and when I finally see some of it, it only comes in small portions. Not in the big reels you see in other countries.

But I will find some...

Ideas

I know that I just recently showed you a piece of Christmas fabric, but now you have to see another one. This is even more beautiful than the one I bought for the Christmas dress - at least I think so...

This fabric has trees on it as well, but the colors are brighter and more happy....

I love that touch of childhood which the print on the fabric has...a quality which I have always loved.

I bought some of Amy Butler's beautiful fabric too. The colours pink, lime green and grey go so well together, and will be perfect for a dress or a tunic for me.

Maybe I should buy this pattern from the Danish company ONION:

I really like the length of the sleeves and the ribbon in the neckline.

Oh yes, I'm convinced...it's going to be pattern number 2027....

Little Red Corvette - Live

It has been around 24 years since I started listening to Prince. And I guess that I will never ever get done listening to his words and music. He has really had numerous moments of genius while making his songs and performing them.

I can hardly wait

I love the fact that autumn always tend to bring new craft books on the market. And what is more cozy than sitting inside a warm livingroom, with a new and exiting book in your hands? I adore that...

Here in Denmark there are 2 books which I think that I'm going to buy:

Annette Danielsen has made a new book with children's clothes - "Det er Ganske vist". This time it's based upon old fairytales written by the famous Danish author Hans Christian Andersen.

It's a great idea that fairytales are the fundamental basis for the patterns - I'm looking forward to see how that mix has turned out. The patterns are going to fit the sizes from 2 to 8 years.

If you feel interested in the book as well, then it will be available at the end of September.

The other book is called "På pinde og nåle" and is a collection of patterns designed by Lene Holme Samsøe, Ilona Petäjämaa, Stine Hoelgaard Johansen, Inga Walløe Pantzar and others.

Some of the patterns we have seen before and some are brand new designs.

This book will also be in the Danish shops in September...

Have a wonderful weekend with lots of reading....I know that the weather here in Denmark will be perfect for that the next 2 days! Rain, rain, rain....

H-A-L-L-O

Well, now I might just be looked upon as an oldfashioned, absolutely not up to date woman. But I dare write it anyway....

I have bought my very 1st and very own cell phone!!!

I know that it's at least a trillion years too late to make that acquaintance, compared to a huge part of the people in this world. But I haven't had the need for it until now.

However I do know how to use a cell phone, eventhough I might just be the most slow person at all when I'm writing text messages.

But who cares - I'm not in a hurry....

New birds

I love it!, originally uploaded by lille-ursus.

New birds have arrived at my house and I can't stop smiling when I see them....thanks to Andrea and myself.

Bengt & Lotta know exactly how to make things, which are different and yet simple. I'm growing more and more fond of black these days. (Now I only need to persuade my husband to agree with my idea: we must paint our frontdoor black!).

I know that this candleholder will please my eyes for many years to come. Don't you just know it right away when something has that effect on you?
